I am in a temporary one-year position (not in the tech field) hired directly by the company so no recruiter involved. At three months in I asked about how I could transition to full time (my manager previously mentioned he was pleased with my performance and was impressed how quickly I was able to ramp up). The response I received from my manager was that I would have to wait until closer to the end of my one-year contract when a "headcount" would be completed. My manager also asked if I was looking for another position (I said No) and to inform him if and when I do.

For those versed in Feng shui (please, no internet researchers) what is the right Cardinal directions the head of a bed should be oriented to? I've been having sleeping problems, and I had it oriented north-west. Searching the web says south-east it's the ideals direction, but again, nowadays I don't know what sites are ai-generated.

I'm interested in ways that people document, prioritize and execute items they need to do. What have you found useful?

I’ve seen some friends that keep their places like caves; all curtains and blinds closed with maybe some lights on. Some even going so far as to put up foil and completely blocking out light. Do you have the impression that alcohol consumption that was pretty normalized a few years back on every social occasion is getting questioned lately? What do you think about it?

I've been thinking about this especially as tariffs are set to make non-plastic even more expensive, and we're going to see EVEN MORE products that traditionally were glass/aluminum become plastic...Not just from an 'ecowarrior' thing but micro/nanoplastic pollution, what are your tips to avoid plastic packages as it seems increasingly the 'only' option for so many products now... even 75% of veggies at my local super are plastic wrapped with no alternative!!! I like to always have a great care when I post news stories here on Lemmy, I always piortize the adfree/ tracking free and non-profit sources.

I'd read a bit about the browser extension being a scam, but I just watched a video that explains the mechanics of the scam and I'm baffled why PayPal hasn't been sued.

I don't get it. Everywhere I look there is this discussion about getting into a relationship, getting gfs/bfs and constantly chasing after it. And I'm not doing anything of it. I never paid attention to such stuff. During my teenage years, I thought it was normal attraction which people cave into and pursued such things. But now in my 20s, the same thing I observe, if not a little bit more than I used it. People getting sad because they are not finding someone. People being happy because they have one for themselves.

I have a soft spot for the topic of people who are dual faith. It's weird, you know. If you're an atheist, you get a thumbs up from me. If you're religious with one faith, you get a raised eyebrow from me. And if you are dual faith, you get two thumbs up from me. It just feels like you're more open-minded if you are more than one faith.

I want to compare the security of running my own:

Somewhere between 2010 and 2016, I found a podcast set in the HALO universe about an independent journalist exposing corruption in the UNSC. It lasted for one season, maybe ten episodes at most. Don't remember much outside of the Spartan program pretty much running on child abuse, and Master Chief being the human embodiment of roid rage. I'm fairly certain it was a flagrant copyright violation, but at the time i was a gullible teenager and thought it was official material for some reason. I kinda want to check it out and see if it is as good as I thought it was at the time—and I've also completely forgotten the plot, so all the plot twists will be new all over again.

EDIT: Decided to get 16GB more RAM, a Ryzen 5 2600 3600 (used)*, and a Gen 3 Sabrent Rocket 1TB SSD. About $145 all-in *so far*. If there are still issues, then a GPU in the ~$150 used range is really the last upgrade for me on this platform, I think. *Actively looking for a 6600 class due to the low power requirements. If lemmy instance 'A' defederates from instance 'B', but 'B' doesn't explicitly defederate from 'A'; can the users on instance 'B' still see the content from 'A', but not interact? Or are both sets of users prevented from seeing each others content altogether?

Politics, making bad choices with votes, is mainly what I have in mind...but it's not limited to that. You see it with anything that requires a choice and a commitment of money, time, effort, etc. By and large people don't want to admit I made a bad choice and it's time to cut my losses.
