I just thought about the fact that now, in the time of social media, you constantly see footage of the current ongoing wars. Scrolling through my feed constantly see images and videos form Israel and Ukraine. And other than in older wars, the footage is not only carefully crafted propaganda, but also things normal soldiers shot on their phones. So the question came up which impact this new source of intel has on the actual ongoing combat. How many people have died because of social media posts? Have there been IRL steam snipes?

I'm interested in more of a universal design patterns but moving data around is my prevailing interest.

My older brother is being released on parole at the end of this month after serving 11 years and 3 months of a 15-year sentence. I make recurring payments that require exchange. I'm absolutely not financially savvy. I'm good at managing my personal budget but when it comes to financial jargon and market know hows I'm a dummy.

I think it’s a healthy thing to do to admit when your wrong as it places importance on truth rather than self image.

Heresy, right? I've had a mechanical for the last couple of years, and while it's served me well enough, I still don't like the feel or clickety-clack compared to a membrane switch - and my current one is the Razer Blackwidow Stealth w/ rubber o-rings added to the base of each key, which I think is as non-clackety as a mechanical gets.

I heard the term information paralysis the other day and realized that it describes me perfectly . I get so overwhelmed with new information on something I might want to actually learn that I just stop trying to learn it. I'm pushing 50 I have no savings, live paycheck to paycheck and I see these young adults 30 years younger just making bank investing and AI day trading and would love to try it, I just can't start because I get overwhelmed on stuff I know nothing about.

I keep seeing comments about how Canada avoided a similar fate because of its strict use of paper ballots; the US must have changed its system to include these electronic and possibly not airgapped machines.

I could have titled this as just waste created by living daily, but wanted to focus it down a little more. I feel kind of like im the crazy one that sees this insane waste when eating at restaurants, wrappers, cups, drink carriers going right in the trash, billions per day. Its insanity if you think about it.

I’ve been researching and saving for the Light Phone III for a while, but there’s just one thing that’s making me hesitant about getting it: music streaming. I have no problem with downloading all of my music, but that prevents me from discovering new songs that Spotify or YouTube Music or whatever recommends me. I feel like I’m going to miss it in situations I can’t have my laptop (like on long drives).

Everytime I see depictions of "normal" households in TV/Movies/ the house always look extra clean and their belongings are new.

Or I suppose you could be some kind of crazy person who switches it up per game.

Seems like they have the possibillity of getting women who use them in trouble if it collects data and tracks them or something

I thought I hated capsicum most of my life but lately (past my mid 30s) I've come to actually really like it raw. As in salads or sandwiches. I'm enjoying that. As a child my parents would add it frequently to meals but it would always be cooked and I was never a fan.

My wife and I are about 3 weeks from closing on our first house and I am losing my god damn mind. All of our finances/budget work out while still having savings for emergency repairs, our inspection went well after having to back out on the first we offered on (tree fell on the house after offer was accepted, thought we could fix but it was a wash) and we really like the area and first impressions of our neighbors.

I bought a domain name, linked it up to my l ip got SSL via lets encrypt for https and added some header rules until security headers and Mozilla observatory gave it a perfect score.

By vignette, I mean a little ambient scene thats probably infinitely looped that you could leave on the screen and just let play on and on as an ambient scene that is enjoyable despite not progressing or changing. The background music is a huge part of it but it can also be said that the combined music and video/visual is greater than the sum of either part

With the world the way it is, it can be hard (at least for me) to see much of a future. So, for something positive for a change, what's happening in your personal life, what are you getting, or what ever else is meaningful right now - what's going on that you're looking forward to?

I wonder what causes people who once thought they’d spend their life together to not want to do that anymore.
