Enough caring about people who lost their jobs

Community iconc/linkedinlunaticsby
Drew@sopuli.xyz
Enough with the sympathy posts about Microsoft layoffs.
People who stayed in one job for 10, 20, even 25 years -
They weren't loyal to the company. They were loyal to their self-interest.
How do I know?
Because I've been in one organization for 3 months, and in another for 3.5 years.
It's always been about mutual benefit, not loyalty. Layoffs are unfortunate, yes.
But let's stop confusing tenure with loyalty. Years served don't mean you were ever safe or ever owned.

A LinkedIn post by Collin Rutherford, a CEO. The post begins with Rutherford stating he received a message from his "Pakistani software developer this morning..." followed by a direct quote: "There have been some drone attacks in our area of residence. We're not sure what will happen next."

Rutherford then comments on the employee's dedication, contrasting it with his experiences in the United States. He states, "It's hard to find this level of dedication in employees. In my experience, it's (almost) impossible to find it in the United States."

Below the LinkedIn post is a screenshot of Slack messages. The first message is from "Hey team" at 11:40 AM, stating: "My purpose behind informing everybody in the team is that I want you guys to be aware and ready for any challenges that may come. I don't know what's coming next because it happened very sudden today. I'm suspecting that There can be delays in our communication, I'm not sure. But what I am sure about is that the tech team is going to be available." This message includes a thinking face emoji and a thumbs-up emoji.

The second Slack message is from "Collin" at 11:42 AM, replying to the first message: "You're making me want to run through a wall. That got me fired up!!!" This reply includes a flexing arm emoji and a fire emoji.

Andrew Moreland
Co-Founder at Chalk

I love when my competitor is a remote company. That's an easy win for us.
At Chalk, the team is all 5 days a week in-office because we want to iterate really, really fast.
Here's why remote doesn't work for high-performance teams:
1/ Speed of iteration
When everything requires scheduled meetings, decisions often get pushed to tomorrow because schedules don't align or someone's out. When everyone's in the same room, what needs to get said is said and acted on immediately.
2/ Accountability matters
People feel more accountable when they're physically present with their team. Remote makes it easy to look busy without making progress. Being in the same space with teammates executing at a high level drives everyone to deliver on their
commitments.

Looking for Life Partner !!

.

LinkedIn should launch this feature.

It will be WAY Better Than Shaadi/Jeevansathi for Finding a Life Partner!

- No fake profiles

- No scams

- Find a partner from the same field – No need to explain “What is ML/AI?” every time.

- No subscriptions – Connect and talk without paying just to view a profile.

Matrimony websites feel like job portals from the 90s—outdated, slow, and full of irrelevant filters.

I won’t lie—my family was setting up my profile on matrimony sites. I browsed profiles, sent requests, and even entertained “Biodata bhej do” messages.

And then it hit me—LinkedIn would be a far better option!

What do you think—should LinkedIn launch a partner search feature?

linkedin post by a founder

my apartment got broken into today.

laptop stolen, privacy violated.

what did i do? i shut up and worked.

it would be easy to turn this into an all day thing.

but instead C and i took and uber to best buy.

laptops are just possessions, letting them take a whole day of work would be far worse.

so if you’re reading this stay safe.

and remember, it’s not about how many times you fall down, it’s about how many you get back up.

and as always, if you’ve read this far, thank you <3.

How do plumbers exist if there's no junior plumbers

Community iconc/linkedinlunaticsby
Drew@sopuli.xyz
People ask: how are we going to have senior software engineers in 10 years, if juniors aren't hired anymore, replaced by LLMs?

I can similarly ask: who writes the compilers, if we don't have junior compiler engineers? Who creates cars, if we don't have junior car manufacturers? Who creates buildings, if we don't have junior building engineers formed in bootcamps? How are people going to learn how to become a doctor, if we don't hire junior doctors who learned to diagnose through youtube?

This market is so broken, that people in the software development landscape don't understand how a market works in general, or what a professional is anymore.

People will rediscover why universities exist. They will rediscover why, in any other intellectual field, you need to have a bachelor, and often a master's degree or a phd, to start doing anything relevant.

This will take time, though, because the market is flooded with eternal junior developers in management and senior positions.

These people won't outcompete automation tools, the same way as youtube statisticians don't outcompete software like excel that can do linear regression.

The market will be left to the actual professionals, and that is a good thing.

a linkedin comment

The first month wasn't so bad. Sarah, his wife of eight years, remained optimistic. "You'll find something better," she'd say, squeezing his shoulder as he hunched over job listings. But tech companies weren't hiring like they used to, and his skills had grown stale while he'd grown comfortable.
By month three, the silence in their house had developed weight. Sarah stopped asking about his job search, and he stopped volunteering information about the rejections. Their savings dwindled. He caught her crying in the bathroom one night, but when he tried to comfort her, she shrugged off his touch.
The note she left was brief. "I can't watch you give up on yourself anymore. I'm staying with my sister." She took half the clothes from their closet and her grandmother's china from the kitchen cabinet. The spaces she left behind seemed to mock him – empty hangers, vacant shelves, hollow rooms that echoed with every step.
That evening, Tom sat in their – his – dimly lit living room, surrounded by framed photos he couldn't bear to look at. His laptop screen glowed with another rejection email. Outside, a neighbor's wind chimes tinkled in the darkness, a lonely melody that seemed to underscore everything he'd lost.

My stepdaughter tried to put poison in my food several times. I hired her. Here's why.

My second wife had a 13 year old daughter when we met. She really hated me.

She knew I was deathly allergic to peanuts and sprinkled peanut shavings into my food on several occasions. I almost died.

Most stepparents would ground this child, but I respected her. Why?

1. It shows a solutions oriented mindset. I'd respect her less if she hated me and didn't try to kill me.

2. Giving someone a job is the best way to stop them murdering you. She is then dependent on you, plus nobody has ever hated their boss.

3. It highlighted a security flaw. I had been complacent in not checking my food for peanuts every meal, which left me vulnerable to my enemies.

Keep your friends close, keep your stepdaughters who have almost taken your life closer. You learn more from them.

Yes, I know this is satire
