NATO has taken over air defenses in Poland from the US just days before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, according to a NATO spokesman, with questions looming about the incoming administration’s approach to the alliance and to Ukraine.

NATO assumed command and control from the US on Thursday, said Col. Martin O’Donnell, and will help to safeguard logistics nodes in Poland that are needed to continue delivering aid crucial to Ukraine’s war effort against Russia. The move is part of a broader effort that has been in the works for months to shift the burden of helping Ukraine from the US to European countries, amid questions over whether US support would continue under the Trump administration.

Incredible they even have to do this

Historically, this is bonkers. It's so far from everything the US spent 80 years trying to avoid. The right is the dog that caught up to the car and bit a tire, and won't let go despite the acceleration to highway speeds. Nothing makes sense anymore.

It makes total sense if you realize Trump is working for Putin...

I don't think he's literally working for him, i just think he's a useful idiot that's been easy to manipulate. Hell, compliment him and tell him how smart he is and he'll pretty much do whatever you want him to do.

He may not be on the payroll directly but everything Trump does is transactional.

Yup, destabilizing the west, especially through increasing tensions everywhere possible, and getting a malleable idiot into power have been Russian goals since Putin took power.

It’s literally his playbook: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics

We’ve only now gotten to the point where all the necessary bits of the cauldron are finally bubbling enough for it to overflow and / or blow up

I don't know that I'm cool with you comparing dogs like that

Yes, but I’m glad they did.
