If you want to find the right pillow, go to a Sleep Number and try them out. It's the only place I know that you can actually try them out before you buy, and their return policy is like 3 months. They have thin, thick, curved, memory foam etc.

That's why you don't buy all your pillows from the same supplier.

Fking hell, I knew it!

I figured it out. I bought a fancy $100 pillow that a certain hotel uses which is fucking bliss. Underneath that I have the flattest most useless "idea" of a pillow I've had for years. Combined it is the perfect amount of pillow. I can't recommend enough purchasing a high quality pillow though, it's a game changer for real.

$100 for a pillow? hell naw

It does sound kinda crazy, but you will use it for like 1/3 of every day. I can see a similar argument being appropriate as for buying high quality shoes.

more expensive doesn't necessarily mean more comfortable

I suffered for so long and then finally caved and bought a custom-fit pillow for side sleeping. Literally had to go to a physio to measure the space between my neck and the end of my shoulder. It was some of the best $200 I have ever spent, I cannot recommend it enough.

What does a pillow like that look like? Got a pic?

It's one of these bad boys. Mine is specifically for side sleeping but they have back sleeper ones too.

Why does that cost so much? It's just a different shape it can't cost that much more to make than a normal pillow lol

The material is significantly better than other memory foam pillows of similar shape that I've had, but I suspect part of it is the gimmick too of like a medically approved custom sized pillow. I've had it for about a year now though and unlike other memory foam ones I've had, it's kept its shape very well and is still as comfortable as when I first got it.

My problem is I sleep on all sides at any given moment. Never finding true comfort

What if you do both?

I'm not super sure but I think they just give you a different size that's better fitted for in between. Mine is just a tad bit too tall if I sleep on my back, but I had requested a side sleeper only.

How back sleeper pillow differ?

There is more space between your head and the ground when you are on your side

On your back you want a gradual increase in height from your shoulders up

A back sleeper pillow is the right size and shape to fit in a coffin, which is the only time you should be "sleeping" on your back.

the only time you should be “sleeping” on your back

Now why would that be? 🤔

I too wish for the secret knowledge

I use three like a fucking king

Rookie numbers! I unironically use 7 pillows. 3 for the head, 1 for my back (so I can sleep on my side and lean against the wall), 1 between my legs, and 2 to sandwich my feet into.

Holy shit, after years of trying to convince my wife to join Reddit it turns out you were here on Lemmy all along.

3 is a king, 7 is a fucking deity

When I stay in a hotel I take all four pillows and make use of them. I should steal the guest room pillows at home.

"If man is 5 and the devil is 6, then that must make me 7"

You gotta game the system man. One big good pillow and one lil bitch pillow. You will sleep like a king

This is what I do. 10/10 would recommend.

Damned 5 cent titanium taxes.

Edit: methinks people missed the Futurama reference

I sliced a memory foam pillow to half thickness with a single edge razor and put it in the same case as a firm pillow. It's stiff as fuck for the first week or 2, but hoo boy is it the best pillow I've ever had. My wife kept stealing my pillow, so she got the other half of the foam pillow

This post is brought to you by big pillow.

For only $9,999.99, buy our perfect pillow! The only pillow you can sleep with. Now with extended durability, lasts a whole 6 months!

Sounds like a good subscription plan service.

I have a scaleable pillow that you can put more or less layers into. :D

I have a feather pillow that completely collapses under the weight of my head. I guess I just need the essence of a pillow.

That type is ideal for back sleepers!

Almost as if people arent identical copies of each other and have their own requirements :D

more or less layers

for me its usually less too tho

Also, memory foam pillows.

Never using anything else.

Do you have a link? Regular pillows are too thick for my head when lying on my back and it hurts my neck. I instead use a folded blanket so I can customize the thickness.

Found it, buts its a german only site that only ships to a few european countries. https://www.dormabell.de/produkte/kopfkissen_dormabell-active

I got the 40x80cm "nature" version which is merino wool, but they also got fiber and down versions with the same concept.
Im sure there are other companies with similar products.

Its was a smallish local german producer iirc and its sheeps wool based. I can check later tho, maybe they have an online shop.

Shredded foam, pretty much any kind, with a zippered end for adjusting. Toss it in the dryer on cool for 10m when it loses it's floof.

This is the answer. Shredded memory foam 4 lyfe

2 pillow connoisseur here, it's not perfect but it's def better than being a 1 pillow andy.

I have a big ass square pillow that I can fold over at my own leasure

Where do I uh... I mean what would you call uh... can I just...

I found out that those boxy memory foam pillows under a fairly flat "normal" pillow is basically perfect for me

I use a "cube" memory foam pillow with a cooling side.
It's the best thing I've ever bought

I'm going to get one perfect porcelain pillow and live like an emperor

Replace bed with hammock, no need for pillow

Buy a blowup doll and inflate it juuuuust right.

What I need is a pillow that is very soft and conformal on the bottom, with a kind of rigid foamy part on top. I sleep on my side with my arm under my head and I need a pillow that molds to my arm but keeps it separate from my head so I don't pinch my sclipula.

You just need the right pillow. Personally i find couch throw pillows to be way better than bed pillows

Ew. I've never met a couch throw pillow I'd allow in my bed.

It's the same thing as a bed pillow, just feels slightly different

I have a single oversized pillow, it's the best.

Pfft two. I'm using 3 pillows. One for my head, one to hug, one to go on top of my head to block out sound and make me feel secure.

The real play is to get a soft fluffy pillow that you can adjust by moving the fluff around. I can virtually flatten it if my neck is bugging me, or stuff a bunch in one side for side sleeping. Mine is a sealy and I don't think I'll use a different brand again.

They got 2 packs at Costco.

I use a regular pillow and a body pillow

That's why I have neck problems..

pillows are perfect, and I'm tired of people complaining about them!
