Over the years I've greatly enjoyed seeing so many artists do Tintin tribute & pastiche covers. I notice that the vast majority take great care to appear 'authentic,' yet that doesn't stop some from going in thoroughly gonzo & absurdist directions, which I confess tend to be some of my favorites.

Fernando de Felipe is a Spanish university professor, born in Zaragoza in 1965 . He also works as a film and television scriptwriter, in addition to having been a major Euro cartoonist of the late-80's & early-90's. [more]

The four criminal brothers up to their usual shenanigans. As explained in the stories, they're actually cousins of the notorious Dalton Gang, motivated to avenge their cousins' deaths & imprisonment at the hands of Lucky Luke. This panel is from Lucky Luke - Daltons in the Blizzard.

For those unaware, Monstres is a sub-line of the amazing Donjon series, showcasing a who's-who of BD artists & writers, each volume concentrating on a different set of characters. The series was created by Trondheim & Joann Sfar, and there are almost sixty total volumes across Donjon as of this writing. Personally I find it astonishing how high the overall quality is, and how well the volumes compliment each other.

Sillage ("Wake" in English) is my favorite sci-fi BD series, about espionage and special operations (mostly), featuring a young human woman (Nävis), last of her peoples amongst a slew of alien species living in a travelling collective.

I love these antique automobiles as seen in small towns and gorgeous countrysides. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any web-matches for this image, nor figure out who the artist is. Best I could do for now was upscale the image a bit from the original low-res pic.

Album #40 is coming out the end of next month. It's got a new writer in Fabcaro, taking over for Jean-Yves Ferri. Didier Conrad remains the artist, and I think he's done a great job following the late Albert Uderzo.

Evidently there are a lot of BD-themed murals around the city.

The panel is from tome 3 "Le Rige." I liked artist Régis Loisel's ligne claire here, particularly the hatching, shadows and line-work on the mounted beasts. Also, the composition is nicely framed, balancing foreground & background elements with some lush colors, and inverts the typical lighting / shading scheme.

Spirou (literally "squirrel") is one of the most venerable BD characters & franchises, going through something like nine creative teams or single creators over the years. Part of the reason for this turnover is that the originator, Robert Velter, sold the rights to Dupuis early in its history.

Millidge is a British cartoonist best known for his series "Strangehaven."

I have a feeling this is AI-generated, to be honest. I first found it on a German site IIRC, but couldn't find any significant matches apart from that.

This is a fun series I've been reading recently. A pirate captain's lady love was tortured and killed physically, but due to sorcerous machinations, her spirit is able to hang on... barely. Hannibal must soon find a fabled artifact in order to fully restore her, else she's a goner. Unfortunately, some dangerous, undead witches are also after the treasure, and are quite content with wiping our antiheroes out in the process.

These first two are from the book A Land Called Tarot. It's a wordless set of stories inspired by cards, characters and motifs from the venerable tarot deck of cards. The characters are drawn in an anime style (shades of Studio Ghibli), while the backgrounds & settings remind me a lot of Moebius. The stories are fluffily light and whimsical, and for me they're really about looking at the pleasant artwork and imagining what might be happening. Some readers will really enjoy that, and some will miss the lack of a more concrete story.

It's from album #19, Au bord du Grand Rien (*At the Edge of the Great Void*).

The Black Axe is a six-issue mini-series set in the Mouse Guard universe, and this is the original art used for the cover of issue #4. I'm sharing it because I found the art heavily ligne claire-inspired, plus.. yeah! I simply love the piece.

What can I say? Goscinny is the man. He's one of the pivotal figures in BD, whose life got cut short vastly too soon.

It was designed by mad genius François Boucq, perhaps best known for co-creating the thinking person's Wild-West series Bouncer, with plenty of other awards and creations under his belt.

The original volume name is I Cavalieri del Tempo. Note the markups on the margins!

Wolski is a recent discovery, and from what I understand, he's a freelance artist who's worked on board games and small-scale BD such as Marcus William Flopper and Interstellar Dust.

As I was saying elsewhere, what I'm really loving here is the cinematic layout, simulating the way camera cuts work in a movie. It's so wonderful to me, and one of the many l reasons I love BD. Peeters is also the same artistic provocateur who produced such fascinating stuff as Koma, Sandcastle, Lupus, and Aâma.

There's not a lot of info out there for Tomenius, but if I understand correctly, he first discovered a level of fame by riffing on tweets made by former PM and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt of Sweden.

I found this nice hi-res cover of Pilote magazine #140, Feb '86, presumably by Jean Solé, and now I'm left to name the characters. I'm pretty terrible at this, but here's what I've got:

There seem to be two versions of the fetish replica. This one, originally sold by the defunct TintinBoutique.com, and another by Moulinsart [example], without the 'restored' look. I believe they're both made out of resin (not wood), with the former going for as much as $500(!)

When I first saw Yoshida's work, it immediately reminded me of classic watercolors from many a fine BD series.

First of all, huge, honking credit to u/MadDroog, who I believe took these shots using books from his personal collection. The main point is to show the original American editions and then how they looked in the French magazine.

This is a delightful, Moominesque, all-ages book, published by Humanoids in 2019.
