'All of Ukraine is ours' — Putin on Russia's territorial ambitions in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin said "all of Ukraine" belonged to Russia in a speech on June 20 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, amid increasingly aggressive official statements about Moscow's final territorial ambitions in Ukraine.

Putin's claim was based on the false narrative often pushed both by himself as leader and by Russian propaganda that Russians and Ukrainians are "one people."

The narrative has long figured prominently in Putin's rhetoric, often brought up as justification for its aggression in Ukraine.

In July 2021, just half a year before the full-scale invasion, the Russian leader stoked fears of a larger attack when he wrote and published an essay on the "historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians."

This is the same story we had yesterday, and I still don't understand how one covers a story about that without even mentioning the reason for the EU's rearmament and calling out Russia as the aggressor of the Ukraine war.

The Spanish PM is also a close ally of China as we know, the country which has been labeled as "decisive enabler" of Russia in its war against Ukraine.

Mr. Sanchez nor anyone else in this article mentions that Russia spends 7.1% of its GDP for military (according to SIPRI, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute), and officially ~40% of its annual budget.

How would this "dialogue" work with Russia? Putin has been attacking Ukraine for years, and is preparing new attacks against Europe. This article is pure Russian propaganda.

Addition:

More than 350 Russian drones, missiles blast Kyiv killing at least five

Russia launched 352 drones and 16 missiles overnight [June 22/23] in a new “massive” attack on Kyiv killing at least five people and injuring about 20 more, after Ukraine said it would increase the "scale and depth" of its operations against Russian energy and military infrastructure.

I wouldn't exactly start a petition against it if they ban Meta, but it is likely no coincidence that far-right political parties like Germany's AfD are strong on China's Tiktok while exactly these parties have close ties with the Chinese party-state.

Do you think this is a reliable source?

These are the relevant numbers, and there are more investigations than this one with more or less the same conclusions.

Your statement is outright false.

Russia's military spending surpasses the whole of Europe's as Putin ramps up war budget, study says

Russian total military expenditure reached I$462bn in 2024, exceeding the total for Europe in USD at market exchange rates (MER) [...] Estimable Russian spending in 2024 still represented the equivalent of 6.7% of GDP – more than double the levels in the years prior to its 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

How can you cover a story about that without even mentioning the reason for the EU's rearmament and calling out Russia as the aggressor of the Ukraine war?

Jacobin is perpetrating the same anti-democratic talking points as many of its authors (such as Yanis Varoufakis and others). This is more a propaganda than an independent source.

The Spanish PM is also a close ally of China btw, the country which has been labeled as "decisive enabler" of Russia in its war against Ukraine.

Also, Mr. Sanchez nor the Jacobin mentions that Russia spends 7.1% of its GDP for military (according to SIPRI, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute), and officially ~40% of its annual budget.

Yeah, you should expect ... but that's not the case. The article is not biased.

Just read the article, and don't engage in whataboutery, or in asking questions that distract from the topic.

There are many such reviews, and all of them point in the same direction.

DeepSeek’s updated R1 AI model is more censored, test finds

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek’s newest AI model, an updated version of the company’s R1 reasoning model [...] might also be less willing to answer contentious questions, in particular questions about topics the Chinese government considers to be controversial [...] China’s openly available AI models, including video-generating models such as Magi-1 and Kling, have attracted criticism in the past for censoring topics sensitive to the Chinese government, such as the Tiananmen Square massacre. In December, Clément Delangue, the CEO of AI dev platform Hugging Face, warned about the unintended consequences of Western companies building on top of well-performing, openly licensed Chinese AI.

A second:

Leaked files reveal how China is using AI to erase the history of the Tiananmen Square massacre

More than 230 pages of censorship instructions prepared by Chinese social media platforms were shared by industry insiders with the [independent investigators]. The files reveal deep anxiety among Chinese authorities about the spread of any reference to the most violently suppressed pro-democracy movement in the country's history [...]

There are many more from different, very reliable sources.

Feel free to whatabout further, I won't respond to such comments anymore.

I don't see how this solves the censorship and privacy issue. If you search stuff in Chinese, the censorship and privacy issues are even stronger.

The main issue with Deepseek is about censorship and privacy as the review suggests.

Schleswig-Holstein is ditching MS for Linux and Open Source, and let's hope many others will follow.

The title is a bit misleading I would say. It is about the far-right in these countries as the article reads: Orban in Hungary, Fico in Slovakia, Nawrocki in Poland, the right-wing groups in Romania, Moldova. All these groups has been supported by Russia for years while trying to undermine democracy. So this is not really new.

I found just one, and it's some time ago :-)

French police move from Windows to Ubuntu Linux -- (October 2013)

The big reason the French Gendarmerie made the Linux move? It saved them 40 percent in total cost of ownership over Windows.

In other news:

Yet another European government is ditching Microsoft for Linux: Schleswig-Holstein - Germany's most northern state - switches to Linux and Open Source - (June 2025)

[After] the state's cabinet had declared it would make the move [in April 2024, Schleswig-Holstein's] goal is to fully transition from Microsoft programs to Linux and open-source programs within the next three months.

And:

Why Denmark is dumping Microsoft Office and Windows for LibreOffice and Linux - (June 2025)

Before the Danish government announced its move, Denmark's largest cities, Copenhagen and Aarhus, had already announced plans to phase out Microsoft software and cloud services. Here's why.

There is undisputed evidence that Russia is waging a war hybrid war against Europe. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies in the U.S., for example, the number of Russian attacks nearly tripled between 2023 and 2024. Russia’s primary targets have included transportation, government, critical infrastructure, and industry, and its main weapons and tactics have included explosives, blunt or edged instruments (such as anchors), and electronic attack.

There is also a comprehensive report by the Investigative Journalism Network looking into close to 80 incidents that took place since the start of 2024 in Europe and that were publicly linked to Russian-affiliated actors by authorities or news reports.

The latter report also includes a map, and both reports unlikely provide a full picture of Russia's adversarial actions. You'll find more across the web.

Someone else already wonders that there are many other accounts in the Lemmyverse that post much more articles critical of Australia, the EU, U.S., Big Tech, and many other things, let alone the pure propaganda comms where everything that is only slightly critical of China gets immediately deleted. No one complains about that. Why?

There are a lot of non-Chinese people in the Lemmyverse who defend China by parroting the government's narratives, although most of these people know China as tourists at best.

This 'tankie propaganda' talk is one major reason why Lemmy is still barely used and doesn't take off imo. Too many accounts, Lemmy is seen what it supposedly was in the very beginning: A dumping ground for cheap autocratic propaganda.

Just read you own link.

Several countries involved have said they will summon Israeli ambassadors to account for the incident on Wednesday, calling for investigations and explanations.
